چکیده

A simple model for estimating temperature distribution within the frozen region during cryo ablation was tested for accuracy. Freezing experiments were conducted in both ex vivo and in vivo porcine livers. Temperature was measured during freezing using a fiber-optic temperature sensor. Three-dimensional MR images were obtained at the end of each freezing cycle. From the MR image volumes, three-dimensional temperature maps were calculated numerically using a simplified bio-heat model. Estimated temperatures were compared to measured temperatures. The median difference between measured and estimated temperature was 3.03°C. The median distance from a sensor element to the closest point on a isotherm surface with the corresponding estimated temperature was 0.70 mm. The accuracy of this model is acceptable. Temperature maps as outlined here may be used for monitoring of cryotherapy in order to increase clinical effectiveness. © 2001 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.

W3: Intra-Operative Imaging and Brain Pathology

The Intraoperative MRI is of great importance in the surgical removal of gliomas or cranial base tumors. However, the sole use of a intraoperative MRI is problematic, so that a dual system has been developed to optimize the utilization of the equipment, which can be used both for neurosurgical patients and for outpatient or stationary Patients. Within the framework of the new head Center at the...

Selective non-operative management in abdominal gunshot wounds

Introduction: Effects of high velocity bullet in Abdominal wall injuries specially the blast effect on intra abdominal organs needs mandatory explorative laparatomy to manage any major and minor injuries . Usually many explorative laparatomies are negative , but it can be reduced by advanced radiologic techniques such as ultrasonography ,CT – Scan , MRI preoperatively. In patients with negativ...

Patient Safety on intraoperative MR Imaging in a two room

As early as 1997 the first clinical publications showed the clinical benefits of using intra-operative Magnetic Resonance Imaging: “Intra-operative MRI can be expected to increase the degree and accuracy of resection” . Other studies have looked at post-operative MRI imaging and indicate that intra-operative MRI would have had an influence on the clinical outcome . All recent studies concur tha...

Diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging in thoracic outlet syndrome.

PURPOSE. To evaluate the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). METHODS. Medical records of 30 women and 10 men aged 18 to 68 (mean, 38) years who presented with unilateral (n=35) and bilateral (n=5) TOS and underwent 42 surgical decompressions of the right (n=23) and left (n=19) sides were reviewed. MRI findings were compared with intra-operativ...

Non-rigid alignment of pre-operative MRI, fMRI, and DT-MRI with intra-operative MRI for enhanced visualization and navigation in image-guided neurosurgery.

OBJECTIVE The usefulness of neurosurgical navigation with current visualizations is seriously compromised by brain shift, which inevitably occurs during the course of the operation, significantly degrading the precise alignment between the pre-operative MR data and the intra-operative shape of the brain. Our objectives were (i) to evaluate the feasibility of non-rigid registration that compensa...
